Dog snarl

Lettie and Lu are fine when confined to a chain (or tethered leash)-- providing of course you watch them more carefully than you would if they were running around free. And, providing you don't restrain them anywhere near anything that they might get tangled on -- like a picnic table, it takes them entire moments to find a way to get hopelessly tangled up.
If you don't know the girls, that's Lettie on the ground and (It's Always) Lu up on the table. Unfortunately, before Lu could be extricated there was some loss of floral life. Some pottery was also harmed during the aftermath of the making of this photo.
Exciting Development
Speaking of photos... I have received some outstanding shots of labor strife and war protest from Barb in Motown and there are several other promises of more pictures from people all over the place.
Stormy weather is looming so I've got to get some stuff done outside before the skies open. More anon. BC

Karen, a gardner with some thoughtsFriday, June 6th 2008 4:58PM
Actually they're red highway flags used to mark the edge of a new woodland garden. Astilbes are so easy to grow here in zone 5 and there are several plants along the edge of the woods. They'll bloom in a week or two. I have trouble with lupines too. Currently I have aphids. But some of them, for the first time, are doing really well. The ones that are doing well receive about 8 hours of sun, have plenty of air circulation, and receive lots of dropped pine needles. The ones with the aphids are tucked next to a retaining wall and are in damp shade half the time. I don't know if a creature ate the roots of your lupines but I hope you try again...they're great flowers.

Bad doggie!
(No bad dogs, just like no bad children.)
Hope to finish snapping roadside shots today. (Weather has turned appropriately dreary.) And post them over the weekend.
Are those red flowers in the background astilbes? Not lupine?
We lost our one lone red lupine over the long, hard winter. Don't know if it was the burrowing critters - who seem to feed on tender roots - or something more dire.
Any gardeners out there with any thoughts?

Bar,
Deb loves these pictures and thinks Lu's just the cutest darn thing.
Please tell my care taker to post more images of me on his blog site.
It would be an improvement over his long winded and boring political rants!
I've got to go dig up the yard a bit but take care and give your good dogs a sniff for me.
